The assessment process

Before undertaking a therapeutic intervention, we would usually arrange an assessment of up to six initial appointments in order to find out about the current difficulties and the background to these difficulties,  to get to know the child / young person and their family (or the adult client), and to liaise with other professionals who are involved.  If helpful, we can send the commissioner an assessment summary and proposal for further work, alongside aims for the work and how we propose to address these aims.

Some children and young people may benefit from a State of Mind Assessment, which might be a stand-alone intervention to inform future educational or social care provision, or might take place at the start of  a therapeutic intervention.  This is an assessment of around 6-8 sessions including meetings with parents / carers, and leading to a highly detailed report about a child or young person’s state of mind and recommendations for future provision / care.
