Attachment Training

Attachment training is a core part of the tool kit for teachers and school staff who work with vulnerable children and young people. The Bridge offers two levels of training: an Introduction to Attachment for all school staff; and an Advanced Attachment course for staff with additional responsibility in areas of safeguarding and inclusion.

Introduction to Attachment

This brief course is suitable for school staff, youth and social workers, who wish to develop their understanding of how early experiences with care givers can shape children’s expectations and approach to relationships. It offers an opportunity for professionals to apply basic attachment theory to their practice, and see how it can help suggest new ways of approaching work with vulnerable children and adults. The course is available as a twilight or inset session and is offered to teams in the workplace, as part of Continuing Professional Development.

Booking a workplace training and fees

To book a workplace training, contact our office and a member of the team will get back to you for a discussion of your training needs. Fees start at £150 for a training of 1.5 hours for 10 staff. For workplaces beyond a 5 mile radius of the centre of Bristol, there will be a small surcharge to cover travel time and expense.

Advanced Attachment Training

For those who wish to deepen their understanding of attachment theory and its application in professional settings, this one-year course offers a series of 2-hour monthly workshops over 10 months on the different forms of attachment, including work discussion seminars to explore how attachment patterns are present and impact on work with vulnerable children and adults. The course takes a practice-based approach, so that there are plenty of opportunities for members to explore the relevance of attachment to their own work. Members meet in small groups (maximum 5) so everyone has a chance to bring work for discussion. It is offered to professional clusters (eg SENCos, Family Link Workers, Learning Mentors, Family Support Workers) by arrangement.
